Chairs

Chairs

    Acanto

    Antonio Citterio

The Acanto chairs, with or without armrests, have solid wood frames that support comfortable seats covered in fabric or leather; another version, with the same structural characteristics, is designed to be a conversation chair.

    Ayana

    Naoto Fukasawa

Minimalist and innovative, the Ayana collection becomes a new chapter in the story that connects B&B Italia to Naoto Fukasawa. It sees wood as the protagonist, interpreted in an unusual way, witha pleasant oriental touch. If the depths and heights are a clear reference to the south-east Asian tradition, the backrest recalls a Swedish wall bar, an exercise equipment turned into a load-bearing element. Thanks to this solution, the elements of the Ayana collection can be enjoyed and appreciated at 360 degrees, discovering on each side a new elegant interplay of intersections and proportions. Two and three seat sofas and the armchair have armrests at different heights. The armchair armrest is higher to guarantee a more ergonomic seat. The sofa armrest, which is lower, can be combined with a cushion that is easy to be fastened and removed, and helps to lie down more comfortably if necessary. The upholstery of this collection stands out for the individual cushions, all covered with waterproof fabrics. Ayana’s warm minimalism is completed with a chair, a dining table and a low table. The dining chair recalls the stylistic features of the other seats, for a perfect family feeling, with the structure in natural teak wood and two generously padded cushions covered in fabric. The table stands out for its oval top in serpentine, a typical stone of the Alps. The supporting structure in natural teak appears light but is extremely robust, able to resist weather and support the heavy top. Even the coffee table has a round section structure in natural teak, with a top in serpentine. Its broad dimensions allow to create a pleasant convivial atmosphere in outdoor settings. Ayana is a project with a green soul. The teak used to make the structures is FSC certified (Forest Stewardship Council) and all the materials that make up the various elements of the series, at the end of the product’s life cycle, can be separated and disposed of with respect for the environment.

    Belle

    Naoto Fukasawa

With a clever play of literary and stylistic references, the Belle chair is the delicate, feminine counterpart to the Bull table. With rounded lines and padded seat with leather upholstery, it reinterprets the detail of the rounded section of the table legs, and as it develops downwards adds a small element of curvature that creates a graceful touch. Towards the top, the legs join the chair back with elegant, elbow-shaped arms. Two solutions are offered for the backrest, oak wood in the same finishes as available for the frame – light, grey, black and smoked – or leather upholstery matching the seat, obtained thanks to a special manufacturing technology.

    Borea

    Piero Lissoni

Borea is a complete and eclectic collection of outdoor seats and tables designed by Piero Lissoni. The numerous pieces in the collection have in common tubular metal structures with a fluid and seamless design, without joints and interruptions, captivating and even emerging in the detail that extends to the base. The metal bending processes take advantage of techniques typically used in the aeronautical sector and transport them into the world of outdoor furniture bringing life to a collection with an unmistakable style. The collection includes two- and three-seater sofas, an oversized armchair, a low small armchair and a dining chair, all with stackable aluminum structures painted. Comfort is ensured by generous cushions, which are not only soft and relaxing but were also developed to be sustainable.

    Caratos

    Antonio Citterio

Chairs in two versions, armchairs, ottomans and coffee tables are the new proposals that extend the Caratos series launched last year. These new items both reflect and strengthen the original designs’ essential features while softening them by introducing embracing shapes. The light die-cast graphite or amber painted aluminium structure is retained, while padded backrests contribute to the formation of the armrests, creating seating with no postural restrictions at all, encouraging conversation and relations between neighbours. The ottomans and coffee tables echo the design of the frames and are ideal complements to the seats to create conversation areas and social settings.

    Caratos

    Antonio Citterio

Caratos is the new chair distinguished by the elegance of its basic, geometric frame, with closely calibrated thickness and detailed, made of graphite painted or amber painted die-cast aluminium. This chair is definitely light, not just because of its essential and linear design, but also for its low weight and easy handling. The seat and back use structural panels of plastic material placed on a polyurethane layer, then covered with leather.

    Charlotte

    Antonio Citterio

Charlotte by Antonio Citterio is a tribute to lightness. The shell is completely covered, but the frame profile is visible on the chair side, thus highlighting the line of the seat. The cover is in raw cut full grain leather in six different colours (natural, black, dark brown, mud green, bottle green, bordeaux). The frame is available in a series of different finishes that emphasize it when pewter painted, bronzed nickel painted, black chrome painted or black painted aluminium, or blend it with the cover when painted in bottle green or bordeaux colours.

    Cosmos

    Jeffrey Bernett

This is an evolution of the Metropolitan chair, now presented with a new typology of packaging and covering. The renewed frames range from the more classic four bright brushed aluminium spokes with swivel seat, to bright chromed steel rod that allow stacking.

    Crinoline

    Patricia Urquiola

Can you picture the dresses that women wore in the 1800s? Full, bell-shaped skirts held by crinolines (rigid underskirt garments) were spectacular “micro-architectures” commonly seen in living rooms everywhere.

All of the chairs in the Crinoline collection are designed to reflect this elegant look: the wide curve of the base is repeated in the seat and the curve of the backrest.

“The curved part gives it a double-shell silhouette,” said Patricia when describing the soft lines of the series. Crinoline outdoor chairs and armchairs are comfortable, feminine and romantic.

Crinoline is an innovation in taste. An opening. A product that encloses all of the sensitivity of a team working in collaboration with the B&B Italia Research and Development Centre. We left from Italy for the Far East with an aluminium structure: light, recyclable, resistant, completely rustproof and therefore perfect for outdoor use, and everything concerning the weave was changed. The creative process took shape through comparisons with the strengths and weaknesses of manual techniques and love for these traditional arts. Expert weavers tried time and again, but the perfect result escaped us. The woven cover of Crinoline emerged like the Arianna’s cloth: “I gave birth to it with the people who were working on it with me,” said Patricia. As a result, it is a collation of codes and languages. The 1800s, digital information, technology and hand crafted excellence.

    Cutter

    Mario Bellini

Cutter is Mario Bellini’s new chair with strong and decisive aesthetics which create a new type of seating. The back of the chair is slashed by a cut which is pays homage to the great artist Lucio Fontana. Although evident, Cutter’s nature does not only lie in an aesthetic choice but generates an unprecedented type of seating. The twin backrest’s ends are functional and comfortable in a frontal position, while moving independently and allowing a lateral position. This gesture is suitable for chatting with the person seated nearby. It is also designed to ensure high comfort seating and casual movements, allowing the user to lean on one side with an arm placed around the backrest. The seating frame is made of metal and webbing, softened by a classic polyurethane upholstery. To guarantee elasticity and strength to the double backrest, B&B Italia’s Research & Development Centre has opted for a sophisticated harmonic steel core. The upholstery and cover fully envelop the chair in embossed thick leather, creating an ideal synthesis of softness and rigour, underlined by saddle stitching. The central cut reveals an inner part in refined black Saffiano thick leather, as if Cutter’s soul peeps out from this dramatic opening.

    Finishes:

    Dark Brown Embossed Thick Leather

    Black Embossed Thick Leather

    Doyl

    Gabriele and Oscar Buratti

The result of sophisticated research on the theme of padded thick leather that reaches very thin tailoring solutions. Softness is perceived by the lines of the seat and backrest and by their convex shape. Thick leather is bent, rounded and turned but never cut; the continuous seams on the front and back add a graphic sign. The fabric variants can be very colourful.
