Cloud

David Chipperfield

Minimalism and basic lines mark these long upholstered benches, with or without back, which convey a sense of comfort and weightlessness. A more massive look on the front that becomes slimmer on the sides, as if it was a carved block, and a generous size that enhances the effect of mid-air suspension conveyed by the bright metal tubular support, are the features perfectly epitomized by the designer through the name Cloud given to this project. The back, which look small in comparison to the seat, end with a short fold-back part at the top on which to rest your arms comfortably while seated. A curved joint shaped like a quarter-circle enables to combine benches of different sizes, with or without backs, to create seats of various lengths and shapes, producing original landscapes in public areas. Finally, an elegant wooden board can be placed on the seat to act as a top or service element.

The small tables have the same base-frame as the chairs and are available in two heights and three diameters in the round version, while in one height and one width for the square version. Pleasant and minimal, they can be placed beside each other, so they can easily adapt to different home and contract uses.

Dip – Double Dip

Chris Howker

Offered in a single size and in two different shapes, these benches are built using a stainless steel sheet with a thickness of 1,5 mm and a circular sandblasted finish. Obtained with special technology involving milling, bending and welding, they appear as sculpted monoliths with a contrasting interplay between soft, curved forms that are concave and projecting, and areas with a more squared-off look. The benches convey a feeling of massive solidity and, at the same time, have a refined minimalist look.

Metropolitan ’14

Jeffrey Bernett

But the innovative touch is the base with four spokes. Already used as support for the armchair, here it is doubled to enhance the sofa with an aerodynamic flare that refreshingly revisits the look of even the most conventional spaces.

Posa

David Chipperfield

Posa is available in the following types: sofa, armchair and small armchair. The Posa series is named after the Marquis Von Posa, the idealistic hero of the opera Don Carlos by Friedrich Schiller. Schiller was born in Marbach am Neckar, in Germany, the city where David Chipperfield recently designed the acclaimed museum of modern literature, completed in 2006. Chipperfield’s work is often inspired by architectural work and Posa is now exception. Clean lines dominate these seating solutions, with their hidden frames completely covered in fabric or leather.

Posa

David Chipperfield

For this project Chipperfield was particularly concerned with finding versatile, robust seating which would meet rigorous usage requirements while conveying a sense of refined luxury. It is planned to finish the museum seating in leather. This line of research has been combined with another theme that Chipperfield was keen to explore; that of obtaining comfortable soft seating from thin upholstered sections applied to a light and dynamic structure, using advanced industrial production techniques.
