Arbiter

Antonio Citterio

Arbiter is a modular seating system with extra-large measurements and oversized cushions, ideal for large spaces, that completes the brand’s range of sofas. The abundance of material is counterbalanced by the stylistic essentiality of the precise, almost archetypal lines, designed to lighten its impact in the home environment. The production technique is one typical of Maxalto: a steel frame and cold-foamed polyurethane structure. It comes in two depths (105 and 115 cm) in various configurations with or without a chaise-longue. There is also a version with Citterio’s beloved discontinuous backrest, which is designed to create seating that looks in the opposite direction, for example facing the bookcase behind the sofa. The range of materials introduces options with refined, distinctly woolly, and richly textured fabrics. The cushions present a surprising solution: in each pair, the small one sits behind the larger one, which thus becomes a kind of additional backrest that wraps around the sitter’s shoulders.

Arne

Antonio Citterio

Designed to create the setting for leisure activities, Arne stands out for the curved shape that envelops the user. It is an invitation to socialise and share moments together, to converse and watch television shows on a large screen. It has all the features of the protagonist designed to be centrally placed in the room and, even placed against a wall, it never loses its image of comfort and lightness conveyed by the aluminium supports on which both seat and backrest seem to be suspended.

Atoll

Antonio Citterio

Named after the coral formation B&B Atoll, the new modular seating system by Antonio Citterio, is a refined expression of a balanced aesthetic form and a decisive contemporary style that is also extremely elegant. The system is built on three basic platforms – 190 cm and 240 cm, both with 90 cm depth, and 130 cm with 140 cm deep – that are complemented by armrest and backrest elements to form various types of seats: sofas, dormeuses, corner-end modules, single or modular elements with chaise longue and ottomans. The frames have light, slender lines and are applied on high die-cast supports with metal profile emphasising the line between the structure and upholstery. Two finishes are available, pewter and black chrome. The pieces are given even more character by a supporting element to be placed wherever desired, a bolster in two sizes – 65 cm and 90 cm – attached by leather straps to a die-cast structure. This accessory can be inserted between the seat cushion and the base structure to provide an additional support or become an armrest or backrest at will. B&B Atoll is a dynamic project with a constantly fresh ability to adapt to different compositions and create different seating types, from informal relax versions to most formal, also made possible by the use of complementary back cushions.

Atoll Soft

Antonio Citterio

In line with the concept of continuous growth and evolution, the B&B Atoll collection has been extended with the new B&B Atoll Soft sofa. Alongside the classic version now stands a new version, with even softer shapes and cushions. In terms of appearance, B&B Atoll Soft stands out for its more informal look arising from a more accentuated roundness and bevelled edges, offering a promise of comfort further confirmed by the brand new upholstery.

Aurae

Antonio Citterio

Great attention is given to tailored details with fabric upholstery embellished with a faux leather trim and leather covers enriched with profile seams

Ayana

Naoto Fukasawa

Innovative in its warm minimalism, the Ayana outdoor sofa, available in a two- and three-seater version, sees wood as the absolute protagonist. While the depths and heights are a clear reference to the south-east Asian tradition, the backrest recalls a Swedish wall bar, a piece of exercising equipment turned into a load-bearing element. Through this solution, creating an elegant interplay of intersections and proportions, the Ayana sofas can also be placed in the centre of the room. The sofa armrest can be combined with a cushion that is easy to fasten and remove and helps to lie down more comfortably if necessary

Bay

Nipa Doshi and Jonathan Levien

The Bay two- or three-seater outdoor sofa stands out for its sculptural, monolithic design. Enveloping double-braided volumes create air pockets that grant transparency and lightness to the collection, while padded rock-like seats and soft cushions reflect the elegance, comfort and refinement of indoor products.

Bend

Patricia Urquiola

Bend-Sofa is a modular sofa with a great personality. It seems to have been moulded by an artist’s hand, but actually originates from the study of 3D models and digital research. Its irregular shape enhances comfort. The very name Bend-Sofa effectively expresses the idea of movement obtained by the alternation of solids and voids, underlined by the contrasting stitching that gives rise to a further design on its irregular and sinuous surface.

Borea

Piero Lissoni

The outdoor Borea two-seater and three-seater sofas feature a tubular metal frame with a fluid and seamless design, without joints and interruptions, and an unexpected motif in the end part that rests on the ground. The metal bending processes used exploit techniques typically used in the aeronautical sector and transport them into the world of outdoor furniture, giving life to a collection with an unmistakable style.

Butterfly

Patricia Urquiola

The Butterfly modular outdoor seating system gets its name from the “butterfly” shape created by the outer corner that joins the armrest and the backrest. With its generous, sinuous lines, it responds effectively to the need for modularity and comfort, offering a free and informal use. Its modular structure is shaped around an ottoman, which is the base piece, and which, when integrated with the backrest and/or the armrest, becomes a central or terminal element, either to the left or right. The combination of these elements, using a simple joint system, makes it possible to freely set up versatile configurations, from in-line sofas to corner solutions, from front-facing to lounge layouts. Completely upholstered, Butterfly brings outdoors the quality and comfort that have always characterised the company’s indoor seating.

Canasta

Patricia Urquiola

Vienna straw, with its geometric decorative pattern, is the inspiration behind Canasta. Enlarged to macro proportions, the design is applied to chairs with a striking effect. The sofas, available in circular and in-line versions, are characterised by ribbons in polyethylene fibre woven on aluminium frames painted with polyester powder to make them weather resistant. Classic in style but with a contemporary sense of plasticity, Canasta is a hyper-decorative collection, ideal for use at the edge of a swimming pool or in a luxuriant garden. Charles

Antonio Citterio

The protagonist of modern lifestyle, it has become the landmark in the world of design. The light feeling especially conveyed by the essential design of the inverted “L”- shaped feet, along with a single seat-cushion and a series of free cushions placed on the backrest is the distinctive feature of a sofa that has met with boundless success. The airy shape and simple profile make it, almost by contrast, extremely rich and innovative from a spatial standpoint, a system that encourages the creation of ever new compositions. Charles includes an extensive family of elements that can meet every furnishing requirement, even the most personal demand for comfort.

Charles Large

Antonio Citterio

A very comfortable seat, the sofa is a welcoming shelter to lie down in. This is the new concept of the Charles system by Antonio Citterio, which has become in time a classical element of interior design, a huge market success since its creation in 1997. A wide depth reshapes its line.

Charles Outdoor

Antonio Citterio

The Charles sofa system, a long-time bestseller for the company, is being introduced in an outdoor version: Charles Outdoor. Characteristics that made it a classic of pure contemporary taste have been left unchanged. The system will have the same slim frame, flexibility and signature design of the inverted “L”-shape aluminium foot. The new piece maintains the beauty and simplicity of the original project while also evolving gracefully for practical outdoor use the piece is lightweight thanks to its slim aluminium frame and has an external surface created by open interlacing brown polypropylene ribbon.

Cloud

David Chipperfield

Minimalism and basic lines mark these long upholstered benches, with or without back, which convey a sense of comfort and weightlessness. A more massive look on the front that becomes slimmer on the sides, as if it was a carved block, and a generous size that enhances the effect of mid-air suspension conveyed by the bright metal tubular support, are the features perfectly epitomized by the designer through the name Cloud given to this project. The back, which look small in comparison to the seat, end with a short fold-back part at the top on which to rest your arms comfortably while seated. A curved joint shaped like a quarter-circle enables to combine benches of different sizes, with or without backs, to create seats of various lengths and shapes, producing original landscapes in public areas. Finally, an elegant wooden board can be placed on the seat to act as a top or service element.

Coronado

Afra and Tobia Scarpa

Presented in the distant 1966, after more than forty years it is still the symbol of relaxation. Its revolutionary personality in terms of design and of materials is the example of B&B Italia’s industrial culture, but success, then as today, was decreed by aesthetics that converge the classical features of period furniture and modern requirements. Besides the sofas and armchair, the collection also includes a high armchair with a unique ottoman, which have in common the fact that comfort is ensured by a spring system made of steel music wire strips incorporated into the backrest.

Diesis

Antonio Citterio

Diesis is not only a B&B Italia classic, but an absolute icon of contemporary design. 2019 marks the 40th anniversary of its first appearance – an important landmark which has been celebrated with some design and structural updates. These updates return to the original concept while simultaneously advancing the design towards the future. The iconic backrest retains its essential and technical integrity based around the structural steel core, composed of metal springs which give strength and flexibility. The thick leather covered base and backrest are just like they were 40 years ago, but now have a distinctive Saffiano texture. The supporting frame has a timeless elegance, which underlines Diesis’ harmony with the vision of the great masters of Modernism. The cushions boast a new leather cover (available exclusively for Diesis 40) that accentuates the product’s strength and vigour. This is softened by new and more comfortable upholstery. Reinforced seams and other techniques borrowed from saddlery draw attention to the authentic craftsmanship. Lovers of technical details will appreciate the die-cast lenticular elements of the polished brushed aluminium frame, and the seat structure which is further reduced by using two leather-covered coupled sheets. There are many further details to discover in Diesis 40. It is a great classic ready to face the next decades of its life.

Husk-Sofa

Patricia Urquiola

Warm and comfortable, Husk is the perfect example of how to reverse the construction process of a sofa. Its structure in fact is created by the softer, flexible parts. Husk is available in two sizes. They both have a deep seat, although the shorter version combines the seat with a backrest, whereas in the longer version, the two cushioned components are separated. Its generous volume is made lighter by the different finishes of its supporting components, while the down feather cushions grant maximum comfort. Elegant and casual at the same time, it changes its appearance whether it is covered with solid colur or melange fabrics. Husk is not a place you sit on, rather you sit in. You are greeted by its embrace, never losing contact with what surrounds you.

Hybrid

Antonio Citterio

After the great success of Ribes, Antonio Citterio developed some design ideas behind it and created Hybrid, an innovative new system of modular seating elements that it is so versatile it can be arranged into an almost infinite number of combinations. The key role of the textile dimension stands out immediately, with upholsteries that cover completely the generous padding, the absolute protagonist. These are typical elements of indoor furnishings, which find with Hybrid an outdoor interpretation. Hence the name of the collection, which is proposed as a real link between the inside and the outside of the house. Hybrid represents in fact the perfect furnishing element for climates and spaces that are defined by a continuous blend of inside and outside environments, with rooms that open to an en-plein-air dimension, and for living spaces integrated into terraces and gardens. The combination of opposites happens not only visually, but also through the sense of touch. Hybrid guarantees in fact the typical comfort of traditional upholstered furniture for interiors, thanks to a new type of mattress seat conceived for outdoor furnishing. The cushions are actually made with paddings with different densities, carefully designed to pleasantly accommodate the body and support it at the same time, without sinking. The supporting structures are almost invisible, and the seat seems to float a few centimeters above the floor. The solid base is formed by a frame in extruded aluminum painted in he colours sage, clay and anthracite, and is completed by a platform with fiberglass slats. The backrest conceals an aluminum structure, covered with soft polyurethane, which is in turn covered with a padded sheath, completed with a cover in waterproof fabric. The platform is available in eight sizes and two depths, while the armrest and backrest come in two heights. To guarantee further comfort to the deeper seat, the low backrest can be raised with an additional headrest cushion. Additional cushions in various sizes enrich the range, offering countless design and chromatic solutions. The Hybrid collection also includes a series of new outdoor fabrics made with mélange polypropylene yarn in five colour variants that are accented by refined trims. Choices that confirm a decisive and elegant presence for interiors and outdoor spaces.

This variety in the product range makes it possible to organise different types and methods of use, from formal to casual. A common denominator of the three seating systems is the wide variety of elements that make it possible to interpret the living space with extreme flexibility: 34 linear and modular elements and five ottomans.

Michelle Effe

Antonio Citterio

With Michel Effe an important chapter is added to the successful story that started with Michel, the first modular sofa from the series. Some of the characteristics are unaltered, such as the two depths, but it is more essential than its predecessors. It reveals a new design thanks to a simplification of the seat with a single cushion. It is thinner, but not less comfortable. Everything superfluous has been eliminated.

Moon System

Zaha Hadid

With its unmistakable distinctive profile, like the buildings designed by her, Zaha Hadid creates a highly dynamic corner sofa. It looks like a “single block” that contains, as if “sculpted” into a single material, the backrest, seat and armrest, which match the ottoman that perfectly corresponds to the hollows of the seat and follows its profile. It is a powerfully iconic sofa-sculpture that does not renounce ergonomic design. It is ideally placed in the centre of a room.

Naviglio

Yabu Pushelberg

Yabu Pushelberg’s Naviglio collection is composed of a curved, linear, chaise longue and ottoman elements that together express a visual dialogue between structure and form. The synthesis is the project’s essence and starts from its name. Watercourses are places of meeting and confluence, a synthesis of trade and leisure, human intervention and contact with nature. This was the starting point for the designers George Yabu and Glenn Pushelberg for their first partnership with B&B Italia. In the Canadian designers’ vision, the seating base is a riverbed that defines the space to accommodate a backrest/armrest which is as sinuous as a watercourse. Yabu Pushelberg’s design builds a relationship between organic forms and B&B Italia’s moulding technologies to create a consistent and univocal whole. As a piece of a puzzle, the B&B Italia team has ergonomically designed each shape to achieve a single cohesive unit. The backrest section and the seating shapes reveal a delicate balance between polygons and curved shapes, where geometry becomes softness and rigour blends with comfort. The backrest originates from a round shape, but it is actually an irregular polygon with rounded edges – both an amazing and reassuring detail. The upholstery of the different elements is made of differentiated density polyurethane to cosily embrace the body and ensure the most appropriate support. The choice was dictated by the object’s nature – a sofa designed without seat cushions. Naviglio’s upholstery range, including a new bouclé with a uniform base and multicoloured flames that recall the dynamism of action painting and impressionistic colour combinations. A subtle pictorial interplay between light and shadow that adds five variations of the new fabric to the collection, where white, grey, black and tortora colours interact. The rear surface of the backrest presents a continuous tone-on-tone or contrasting decorative section, creating a linear element that further underscores the shape continuity. The range complement, the Naviglio service table designed by Yabu Pushelberg studio, presents a transparent glass top to be positioned close to the seat. The slender bronzed nickel vertical axis is supported by a polished marble base, with a river stone-inspired shape.

Nidus

Antonio Citterio

The Nidus collection of upholstered furniture was inspired by the precise need to create a series of formal proposals with a relaxed feel, for moments of socialising and conversation in a harmonious, relaxed setting. Antonio Citterio has achieved this objective by paying great attention to structural details like the embracing shape of the curved sofas, available in two sizes. Together with the absence of arms and the high back, this solution makes it possible to bring people together in a fresh, relaxed and unusual way. This extrovert approach is also embodied by the armchairs, offered in three versions, only one of which with arms, intended as items to be arranged freely. All the Nidus pieces can be complemented by a comfy removable headrest, and have feet upholstered in the same fabric or leather as the seats, with the addition of a small metal detail at the base that is decorative and also guarantees protection against impacts.

Nooch

Piero Lissoni

After the great success of Borea, Piero Lissoni and B&B Italia continue to pursue research and sustainability in the outdoor sector, creating Nooch, a modular seating system whose name is inspired by the tropical botanical garden of Nong Nooch in Thailand. Its key feature is the tubular structure in recycled aluminium, a light and strong material, completely recyclable. A choice inspired by simplicity, which recalls elementary tubular structures and ennobles them with a design that pays attention to every detail. The intersection of the structural elements represents the iconic feature of this collection, with the particular elbow curve achieved by the way the aluminium bends. A design and engineering detail that combines function and beauty. Nooch is a system that offers the possibility of creating infinite combinations from two base modules: a rectangular one and a square one. Both can be equipped with backrests and armrests and have an aluminium top with slats on which the cushions rest. The modules can be arranged as free-standing units or attached firmly together by means of special interlocking joints so as to create a variety of configurations. A series of additional top sections, to be inserted between the elements, offers even greater compositional freedom. The paddings are designed with sustainability in mind. They use regenerated materials, which are completely separable, and consist of two layers of polyurethane with different densities and firmness: one layer made of polyurethane recycled from production waste and one made of virgin bio-polyurethane, both wrapped in an outer sheath of recycled PET. The system is completed by a small round service element to be inserted between the cushions to offer further support and a particular backrest/armrest cushion to be inserted between the elements to create inverted and double-sided seats.

Noonu

Antonio Citterio

Noonu is comprised of four basic elements, namely a square and a rectangle, in addition to the brand-new “piano” and “sail” elements. The piano-shaped base creates a welcoming curve in the backrest, whilst the sail provides a generous, rounded volume at the front. Antonio Citterio has designed them to be “natural chaises longues”, bold evolutions of the peninsula module, new organic forms conceived with total relaxation in mind, just like the special pockets of nature that Noonu is named after. Each component in the Noonu collection has, at its base, a metal profile made from curved, pre-shaped aluminium, a strip that runs along the entire perimeter of the frame, defining it, which comes in a selection of finishes: bright brushed, black chrome painted, and pewter grey painted. The same finishes are also available for the supports for the roller elements. Noonu is set to be introduced in a new fabric with 12 colour variants: solid colours and mélanges of neutral hues, but also sophisticated shades of blue, green, red and orange. These are bold yet extremely homely tones, designed especially to suit combinations between the various elements of each individual composition (frame, cushions, rollers), thus allowing for a custom solution of an unrivalled elegance. In addition to this fabric, Noonu will also be available in leather. According to Antonio Citterio, “Noonu is a fully-fledged domestic island”. And this island will draw on the straight and curved lines of its four basic components to establish a dialogue with the walls, but also to take centre stage in the room and create spectacular and dynamic islands. The elements of Noonu can also stand on their own as individual objects, be combined to create personalised compositions, or be selected to form a dialectical relationship with other elements from B&B Italia’s collections, such as B&B Atoll seats and ottomans, Mirto accessories, and Diesis and Pianura tables.
“From Atoll to Noonu,” concludes Antonio Citterio, “what we have is a path that has developed over several years and that now, finally, we can present as a single project, a fully-fledged archipelago”.

Oh, it rains!

Philippe Starck

The very first collaboration between B&B Italia and Philippe Starck leads to the birth of a sofa and an armchair, both with impressive dimensions and a highly scenographic presence, that surprisingly combine an unusual shape and an unexpected function, with a name that really attracts attention. Oh, it rains! is a piece of considerable impact, destined to last over time and to be talked about, but also to be used in the most unexpected ways and contexts. Philippe Starck started his research for this project by going back to the origins of outdoor furniture, that of nomads and soldiers: desert tents and field equipment, colonial colors and very light materials, essential shapes with functions connected with rapid action. We notice Oh, it rains! right away for its large backrest. It isn’t a simple decorative element, though. It acts like a wall or a partition to create an intimate and private setting, and, when necessary, it folds down on top of the seat and – voilà – the seat and cushions are covered and protected. Colours and materials go hand in hand with the initial concept and the collection introduces colonial shades and raffia-effect waterproof fabrics. The backrest is proposed as a surface to be personalized through the choice and combination of fabrics. The collection is enhanced by optional cushions that guarantee extra comfort and a dynamic look to this large object, suitable for private settings and also for outdoor areas in hotels and lounge. From a technical standpoint, the backrest is made with a double layer of water-repellent fabric, which makes it 100% waterproof. For this reason Oh, it rains! can be covered with any type of outdoor fabric present in the B&B Italia collection. It is also possible to choose the version with a side table integrated into the structure, available in natural teak wood or Mediterranean stone.

Otium Soft

Antonio Citterio

Otium is a new seating system that stands out for its contemporary classic style, generous proportions and great comfort. Available in various sizes and two seat depths, this modular line offers multiple linear and angular compositions, also with terminal elements with ottomans. Highly distinctive details are the tapered armrests and the faux leather trimmings that outline and embellish the armrests and the seat and backrest cushions. The base is defined by a metal profile in black chrome or bronze nickel.

Posa

David Chipperfield

Posa is available in the following types: sofa, armchair and small armchair. The Posa series is named after the Marquis Von Posa, the idealistic hero of the opera Don Carlos by Friedrich Schiller. Schiller was born in Marbach am Neckar, in Germany, the city where David Chipperfield recently designed the acclaimed museum of modern literature, completed in 2006. Chipperfield’s work is often inspired by architectural work and Posa is now exception. Clean lines dominate these seating solutions, with their hidden frames completely covered in fabric or leather.

Ray

Antonio Citterio

A successful design strategy that achieves a balance of functional and aesthetic features, and entrusts the details to the right role: the seating system Ray is designed for a long life. Modular, with two depths, with an extensive compositional range that includes linear and corner elements, chaise longue and ottoman, it stands out for the tailoring detail of the blanket stitch that runs along the profiles of the cover, both self-coloured and in contrasting hues. A main feature is the die-cast U-shaped foot that, along with the seat cushions, contributes to creating an image of Ray as a low sofa – a particularly elegant piece with balanced forms.

Richard

Antonio Citterio

Richard is the seating system which distinguishes itself by its balanced contemporary design, with references to classical atmospheres. Its modular theme is developed by 76 elements in two depths: 93 cm for more formal and contained solutions, and 123 cm for larger compositions and more informal seating. The extreme flexibility of the system and the ease with which the different elements can be assembled allows the living space to be interpreted in the most varied configurations, from formal to more relaxed, with seats, benches, ottomans and chaise longue. The wide range of covers, in fabric with matching tones or contrasting profiles, and in leather with profiles in the same leather, allows an even greater level of customisation, offering monochromatic or contrasting solutions. The structure is emphasized by a metallic profile at the base, either painted black chromed or pewter painted. Four sizes of optional cushions (65×50 cm, 48×48 cm, 55×30 cm, 38×38 cm) increase the comfort.

Saké

Piero Lissoni

“This design comes from the search for lightness. A technological platform, magically suspended in the air like a flying carpet, with cushions added to enclose the borders, and finally, legs to ground it. This is the basic idea of the SAKé collection, made up of pieces for seating and sleeping, designed in a simply contemporary language, connected with my proportions. I liked the idea of following in the wake of B&B Italia, of modernity. For me, SAKé is a platform on which to float in peace. But it is also a sofa….” – Piero Lissoni

Tufty – Time Leather

Patricia Urquiola

It was 2005, and the designer Patricia Urquiola, sand: “I wanted to take a new look at capitonné and Chesterfield styles, with a special reinterpretations of 1960s and 1970s, which I love”. An expression of the Chesterfield and capitonné style, Tufty-Time modernises them with a free and casual lifestyle. The system finds effective answers to the themes of modularity, comfort and removable covers by forming the various elements that create traditional linear sofas, corner sofas, peninsula-shaped compositions and island elements allowing 360-degree seating. The upholstery in leather or fabric is subdivided into large squares that are joined by pleats, perforated in the leather version.

Tufty-Time ’15

Patricia Urquiola

It seems like only yesterday, but ten years have already passed since the launch of the Tufty-Time seating system, inspired by the creativity of Patricia Urquiola. Tufty-Time ’15 celebrates this achievement, featuring a new textile version. With their large squares and kick pleat, the covers create an undeniably contemporary look.

Tufty-Too

Patricia Urquiola

A development of the Tufty-Time system, the image conveys a perceptible feeling of softness along with a decorative quality based on the tailoring finish. The citation of the capitonné style, which distinguishes the series, lies in the matching or contrasting hues of the cover seams that become a distinctive feature. It maintains the modular feature intact and speaks a modern language that mellows references to the 1960s, which characterise the father of the family.
